Events adopts a student led
approach, fostering a connecting of the online world to the developing of real world skills and activities.
We strive for a level 5 Safety Culture Model - best in class - where safety is a precondition of our work and seen as 'its how we do business around here'.
Currently there are 194 students involved in a positive youth development, ethics approved, research project in conjunction with QUT Psychology and approved by Principals in Anglican Schools. We are striving to build on the evidence, in addition to anecdotal information, about what we do.
Contenders focus on critical skills for online safety, the 4Rs of Online Safety: Respect, Reasoning, Resilience and Responsibility. Each event begins with an online safety brief for up-skilling and timely reminders. The 4Rs are part of an eSafety Commissioner led initiative.
Our activities are focused on student leadership supporting changes in online cultures and building individual capabilities by:
Pre-event there is a focus on practical digital reputation management with feedback provided to coordinators about student user names and handles using a traffic light model to indicate action (green- ok, yellow - pause, and red - rethink and intervention).
During each event the focus expands to:
Each participant receives an esports lanyard with online safety information on the back .
Each participant receives an online safety information session covering a range of topics, including:
Briefings are provided by the Anglican Schools Commission Online Safety Advocate. The advocate is now a eSafety Commissioner certified Trusted Provider 2020

This is essential to overcome obstacles and challenges from the other teams in the league.
